# Math Lab

**Overview**

At Education Station our goal is to improve students’ mathematical skills. We utilize a portfolio system in which students and their instructors are able to track their progress, reflect on past performance (an important part of learning), and build organization to help students develop the executive functioning skills required to succeed in and outside of school. Furthermore, instructors focus on building and maintaining skills that individual students find challenging. Each six week cycle will focus on specific techniques (for example: addition and subtraction facts, decimals and fractions, exponents, etc.), and each class will be set up with activities to introduce new concepts, reinforce/build up the base knowledge, and finally challenge students to go even further. All activities and assignments will be designed with both the Common Core and Massachusetts state standards in mind.

**Pre-K **

Students will build number knowledge through:

- Identification of numbers and number families
- Practicing counting

Students will learn to work with numbers through

- Simple addition and subtraction
- Modeling
- Working with number lines

Pre-K ELA and Math Labs are joined; students in the Pre-K Math Lab class will also participate in the ELA section.

**Monday through Friday Classes: **

November 5 - December 17 (no meeting on November 12)

9:30 am - 11:00 am

#### Pricing

- Pre-K :$240

**Elementary School **

The Elementary Math Lab program introduces students to a variety of problem solving methods that are applicable to a wide range of situations. Students will work with teachers to strengthen and adapt their existing methodology with alternate strategies that can be used more effectively. Throughout the process, students will reinforce addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division skills through discussion and interactive models and projects.

The six week cycle includes one session per week. Students will select one weekday and time slot and will attend on the same day and time every week.

**Middle School**

Middle school students focus on applying the mathematical concepts they learned in elementary school to more complex problems as well as real world scenarios. Through data analysis, situational thinking, and formula use, students will learn to break down problems into components they are able to solve. They will build problem-solving skills translatable to other disciplines and practice both the concepts they are currently learning in school and more advanced techniques.

The six week session includes one cycle per week. Students will select one weekday and time slot. They will attend on the same day and time every week.
